Situated on Seawall Boulevard in Galveston at the former site of the Flagship Hotel at 25th Street, the Pleasure Pier will extend approximately 1,130 feet over the Gulf of Mexico and will include family oriented attractions including rides, games, food venues and retail shops — and one of Landry’s signature upscale restaurants, the Chart House.

The Flagship Hotel, built in 1965, was severely damaged by Hurricane Ike in 2008 and demolished in 2011 to make room for construction of the new attraction.

Besides the costs of the demolition and the planned multi-million dollar transformation of the former Flagship property into the new Pleasure Pier, the project previously was bogged down in litigation after Landry’s owner Tilman Fertitta acquired the property from the city of Galveston in 2004.

The complex legal proceedings involved the Flagship’s former operating company, owned by a Sugar Land businessman. Once the litigation was resolved, Fertitta was able to take full control of the property.

Before the Flagship Hotel operated on the pier, Galveston’s Pleasure Pier operated as an iconic family destination for several decades, and it was the largest of its kind in the country.
