East Downtown on radar of developers and entrepreneurs

February 6, 2013 Leave a comment Go to comments

More than 15 years ago, East Downtown was known by most as Houston’s Chinatown — a bustling scene with predominately Asian retail and residential above, meshed among aged industrial buildings.

Through the years, a majority of those businesses relocated to the International District near Alief and Bellaire, leaving behind untraversed pockets with little development activity. But with the rise of property taxes in the Central Business District and lack of space in other submarkets, the EaDo area is becoming revitalized — drawing in a younger crowd that embraces the industrial charm of the area and sees potential.
